The Billericay Mayflower Twinning Association (BMTA) promotes the links between Billericay and Billerica, Massachusetts, USA, which were formalised with the signing of the Twinning Charter on 21st August 1998. A copy of the charter is also on show in the Chamber of the Selectmen (councillors) in Billerica MA USA.

The town of Billerica is located 20 miles north-west of Boston and borders Lowell to the south and Chelmsford to the north. Incorporated as a town in the state of Massachusetts in 1655, it took the name of Billerica to honour our own Billericay, which was the home town of some of its founders. The town of Billerica is the only one in America to bear that name.

Currently Billerica has a population close to 40,000, having grown rapidly from 10,000 in 1950

Billerica is a major regional employer and home to several high-technology industries.
